Rugs: warp
Warps run the length of the rug through to the fringes
Points to note:
1 What are warps made of?
2. What colours to look for (if natural or dyed).
Point No. 1
Warps are made of: silk, cotton, wool, hair (goat and camel),
goats' fleecy undercoat mixed with wool or hair, hemp and flax.
Point No. 2
Warps are sometimes dyed and their colour depends on their make-up. For example, silk rugs either natural or dyed gold, although six coloured warps extending into a warp fringe, with an interlaced weft sometimes occur.
Other points to note are the make-up. For example: cotton is white, hemp is brown (dry), camel and goats' hair mixed with wool is fawn to soft brown and flax is brown (dry).
